Alshaya organises blood drive to support world blood donor day

Colleagues from Alshaya Group, the leading international retailer in the Middle East, were pleased to build awareness and donate blood to the Kuwait Central Blood Bank to support World Blood Donor Day. Organised by Alshaya’s local Sport and Social Committee, employees from the Group participated in the campaign which was held at the Kuwait Central Blood Bank in Jabriya, on 2 June 2022 and 9 June 2022.

This year, the World Blood Donor Day slogan “Donating blood is an act of solidarity. Join the effort and save lives” aimed to draw attention to the roles that voluntary blood donations play in saving lives and enhancing solidarity within communities.

Seneca Cottom, Alshaya Group’s Head of Sustainability and Head of the Alshaya Sport and Social Committee said: “Blood is precious because every minute of every day, someone somewhere needs blood. Our colleagues have all been hugely supportive of this initiative, and we are very proud of their efforts in donating blood and encouraging more people to do the same.”

Alshaya Group was grateful for the support of medical and professional staff of the Blood Bank, who helped ensure that the blood donation sessions ran smoothly and efficiently. Thanks to the volunteers, the Central Blood Bank collected units of blood that will be used for a variety of critical purposes, including trauma and burn treatment and the treatment of cancer, sickle cell, and other chronic diseases.
