H&M (UAE) and Emirates Nature–WWF: A renewed partnership that encourages a more sustainable future

18 Aug 2022

Last year, H&M (UAE) began an ambitious collaboration by joining forces with Emirates Nature–WWF, most specifically on their ‘Rethink Plastic’ initiative. Today we are pleased to announce a renewed partnership with them, for the duration of 2022 specifically on their Rethink Plastic initiative which calls on businesses in the UAE to help reduce plastic pollution by encouraging their consumers and residents to think more about the plastic waste they generate. At H&M we realize we are losing biodiversity at a faster pace than it can restore itself and therefore with this renewed partnership, are supporting efforts to reduce our overall impact on nature and its ecosystems. We have also introduced new shopping bags that are made from 100% recycled paper.

H&M (UAE) and Emirates Nature–WWF: A renewed partnership that encourages a more sustainable future

“We are delighted to have renewed our annual partnership with Emirates Nature–WWF, and are committed to leading the change for a more sustainable fashion future. As a brand that advocates for conscious shopping, we seek ways to reduce our impact on the climate and encourage customers to join us on the journey. By working with Emirates Nature–WWF, we hope to jointly raise awareness about the impact of consumer waste on the climate and highlight the importance of biodiversity. Sustainability for us is an ever-evolving journey with no end goal, and we are confident we are heading in the right direction and making constant improvements.” – Saleh Alshaya, President – H&M MENA

Director General of Emirates Nature–WWF, Laila Mostafa Abdullatif, said of the initiative: “Our corporate partners play a crucial role in the green recovery. Single-use products such as shopping bags has a devastating impact on the UAE’s biodiversity, which in turn affects our food and water security. Corporates have the reach to drive behaviour change at great scale and encouraging customers to single-use products with more intention while also supporting our programmes is a two-fold advance towards a green, sustainable future.”

H&M (UAE) and Emirates Nature–WWF: A renewed partnership that encourages a more sustainable future

Our partnership with Emirates Nature–WWF started in April 2021, where together we sought to bring about a more sustainable fashion industry by encouraging people to consume less waste. By renewing our partnership, we are aligning our customers with the H&M vision of becoming 100% circular and climate positive by 2040.

With H&M’s partnership contributions, Emirates Nature–WWF has successfully achieved its various objectives in 2021 by contributing to the important conservation work by helping to fight the climate crisis and restore the UAE’s vital natural ecosystems.

Let’s change fashion.
