Over 15 Kuwaiti students with disabilities supported by the Kuwait Society for the Guardians of the Disabled (KSGD) were congratulated for successfully completing their month-long retail internship programme at stores operated by Alshaya Group, this July.

With KSGD and Alshaya Group's partnership now in its tenth year, the internship programme helps students with disabilities familiarise themselves with the working environment, as they work part-time and receive supervised retail training at branches of Starbucks, Mothercare and Next for a period of four weeks.

At a special awards ceremony, certificates were presented by the Honorary Chairperson of the Kuwait Sports Club for the Physically Disabled, Sheikha Sheikha Al-Sabah and KSGD Chairwoman, Rehab Borsili, who were joined by representatives from KSGD and Alshaya.

"We are very proud and pleased to congratulate this year's programme graduates from KSGD and celebrate their achievements. Our partnership with KSGD provides us with a great opportunity to help Kuwaiti students with special needs get a taste of working in the world of retail and discover new skills and talents. Every year, we look forward to welcoming them." said Andrew Stott, Regional Learning and Development Manager at Alshaya Group.

"I'm grateful to Alshaya Group for hosting our KSGD students once again at their stores. We hope that more companies like Alshaya provide opportunities by embracing children with special needs and helping them integrate with the working society in Kuwait," said Sheikha Sheikha Al-Sabah at the event.

"We are delighted to celebrate the completion of the KSGD summer internship programme. We're thankful to Alshaya Group for their continuous support throughout the years. We have succeeded in making a clear impact on the behaviour of students and their lives as a whole, providing them with new skills and experiences that will benefit them in the long run," said Rehab Borsili.

Alshaya's partnership with the KSGD internship programme began in 2010, initially offering candidates part-time work experience in Starbucks branches across the country. Alshaya's partnership with KSGD is part of its wider commitment to the community to develop the skills and talents of young Kuwaitis and provide them with chances to learn and develop.
