Kuwaiti Students Gear Up for Alshaya's Summer Internship
09 Jun 2016
The ninth annual internship programme gives career-minded students a month of hands-on retail training
For Kuwaiti students looking for opportunities in the world of retail, M. H. Alshaya's Summer Retail Internship is the place to be – and this year, more than 170 young Kuwaitis will be experiencing the retail world hands-on, with placements across some of the 70 world-leading international brands operated by Alshaya.
Reflecting its strong partnership with Kuwait's Manpower and Government Restructuring Programme (MGRP), Alshaya's Summer Internship will be running for the ninth year in 2016 from 17th July to 18th August.
The programme will see high school and university students spending four hours daily in one of Alshaya's stores, gaining invaluable hands-on learning and development experience. Brands involved in the programme include Starbucks, H&M, Debenhams, American Eagle Outfitters, Bath&Body Works, M.A.C, Pottery Barn, and KidZania.
During their month-long internship, the interns will get intensive experience in all aspects of store operations, including sales, promotions, customer service, merchandising and stock management – ideal preparation for those interested in a career in retail.
"We have a strong and growing partnership with Alshaya, which has always been fully supportive of our training initiatives," said Mr Tareq Alkandari, MGRP's supervisor of student training. "As in previous years, we know the students will gain a great deal of valuable retail knowledge and experience during their training at Alshaya stores."
Jassem Alhassawi, Training Manager at Alshaya's Human Resources Department, said the internships would give students a better understanding of the jobs and career opportunities available in the retail industry, including the qualifications, behaviours and skills necessary for a career in retail.
"For us, introducing our Kuwaiti youth to the retail sector is one of the highlights of our year. We look forward to helping them develop their skills and get more insights into this dynamic industry," said Mr Alhassawi.
