Luxury restaurants feast on 20 culinary awards at HORECA

Some of Kuwait’s best-known food brands, operated by international franchise operator M.H. Alshaya Co., have won 20 awards at Kuwait’s leading food and beverage competition, the annual Hotel, Restaurant and Catering Awards (HORECA).

Both Dean & Deluca and Asha’s won gold medals in the Live Cooking category, with teams from The Gaucho Grill, Katsuya by Starck, and Veranda also featuring strongly as Alshaya brands won 11 medals and 9 merit awards at the annual competition. The results build on the company’s success in 2014 when brands operated by Alshaya won 10 medals.

The awards reflected Alshaya’s commitment to delivering an outstanding dining experience to its customers. They are a testimony to its people’s passion and commitment to culinary excellence, their dedication not only to providing a world-class dining experience to Kuwaiti customers, who are highly discerning diners but also to promote the advancement of the culinary arts and the development of culinary professionals in the industry.

Dean & Deluca showed its flair in both international and local cuisines by winning one gold, two silver and two bronze medals for its pasta, traditional Arabic mezzeh, cold sandwiches, sushi and dessert dishes. Asha’s collected one gold and one silver medal in the Live Meat Dish category, while Katsuya by Starck’s sushi specialty collected two silver medals on the day. Veranda also secured a silver medal in the highly-competitive Live Meat category.

In all, more than 200 chefs participated in 17 culinary competitions during HORECA. Their efforts were presided over by a panel of ten international judges.
